A Year of Juana Briones Events
The following is a list of the events we usually plan
during the school year.
We need your help to make these events happen. Click here to volunteer.
Due to volunteer availability…. all of the events listed below are subject to a schedule change, cancellation, or modification. Thank you for your patience and flexibility throughout all our planning and we look forward to our close partnership this year!
– The PTA
PTA hosts an incoming kindergarten family playdate at Briones before school officially begins. This gives the students and their families some time to meet new families and get to know the school grounds before the first day of school. Veteran PTA parents also attend to answer questions families may have.
The welcome back popsicle party is always a big hit at the beginning of the year to start off the school year right! PTA sponsors this event as well and pays for the popsicles as a fun “welcome back to school” celebration. It’s a great way to catch up with old friends and makes some new ones before it’s time to get into the classroom!
Back to School Parent Night
By this time, your child would have told you all about their classroom, new friends, and their teacher. Now it’s time for you to meet their teacher and learn more about the school year for yourself. Your child’s teacher will go over the plan for the year and then there will be a general session with words from the Principal, PiE, PTA, and supporting organizations. PTA will provide dinner for the teachers on this night.
Ice Cream Social
Families enjoy pizza and ice cream sundaes, scooped by
our very own teachers! This is a fun, community building
event where the children play on the playground while
parents socialize and enjoy the warm, fall evening.
International Walk & Roll to School
International Walk to School Day is a global event in October that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. This event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record-breaking participation by our own Briones Bobcats!
At the Harvest Festival, Juana Briones families enjoy food, carnival games, arts-and-crafts, a climbing wall, obstacle courses, a talent show, and much, much more.It is the biggest, school-wide, community event of the year!
Volunteers needed for this event to happen this year.
More details here. One of our most exciting and fun fundraisers, plan to sign up for at least one community-building party (aka great gatherings) hosted by our own Juana Briones parents and often with teachers attending as honored guests! Party favorites are Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss, Ladies Bunko and Men’s Poker just to name a few! Brainstorm some fun ideas to host a great gathering of your own!
National Unity Day
Students wear orange to show support for students who
have been bullied, and in support of National Bullying
Prevention Month. Student Council, CAC and PTA lead
campus activities. This event takes place on October 19th
Our PTA works with the Student Council to advertise
and gather food from each classroom and delivers
food to a local food bank.
3rd Grade Bike Safety
Third grade parents, in connection with District representatives, set up obstacle courses on campus and have a day dedicated to training 3rd graders on correct bicycle usage and safety.
Inclusive Schools Week
PTA and CAC partner to “continue the progress that schools have made in providing support and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population.” PTA volunteers lead events on campus such as trolly rides and inclusive dance parties and activities at lunchtime during the first week of December and throughout the
year! Click HERE to learn more.
Staff Holiday Luncheon & Cookie Exchange
This holiday luncheon celebrates both the holiday season and shows our appreciation for all teachers and staff at Juana Briones. Beautiful decorations, a buffet lunch (catered by a local restaurant), and small gifts for the teachers really show them how grateful we are for all that they do. The luncheon is followed by a cookie exchange, where parents and children share their favorite holiday cookies for the teachers and their family to enjoy!
PTA Meetings & Movie Nights…
…are held multiple times throughout the school year.
All PTA members (that’s YOU) attend, discuss, and vote on proposals for the school and our children enjoy a movie and some popcorn with other Briones children!
Family Math Night
Family Math Night is a fun evening of playing number and logic games. This evening is one of our family favorites! Popcorn and friendly competition make for a great family night out.
New this year!!!
Our very own version of be-strong-a-thon! Encouraging kids to exercise and read! More information on this coming soon!
Ice Skating Party
This all-school party is held at the beautiful indoor/outdoor
Winter Lodge Rink on Middlefield. Families whirl around the rink, taking a break only to enjoy pizza, baked goods, and hot chocolate.
Briones families come from all over the globe and this event celebrates our diversity with food, culture, games, and entertainment. Families host a country table and make food to share. There are also dances from different parts of the world, performed by
students, and their family and friends, as well as a mini-parade to show off our international attire.
The Book Fair
This is a wonderful event run by PTA volunteers, where you and your student can buy books from a vast selection of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and reference books!
You and your students can also buy books for their classrooms, and fulfill their teachers’ wish lists.
Celebrate Mother Nature by walking, biking, or carpooling to school. Pack a waste free
lunch, pick up trash, recycle markers, and join in many other inspiring activities lead
by the PTA
Community Garden Days
Bring your shovel and gloves and get ready to pull weeds,
plant seeds sown in your child’s classroom, and enjoy fresh fruits and veggies with other Briones gardeners.
This week, the first week of May, shows our staff how much we appreciate them! Each day of this week, parent volunteers surprise teachers with something special from the children, to show them how much we care. All the teachers and staff enjoy special lunches, coffee, and surprises to show our gratitude for all that they do for our children and the school!
Kids love to share all their hard work from the year.
At Open House you are invited to picnic on the grass
before touring your child’s current colorful, student-
decorated classroom. There are also opportunities
to meet the teachers (of the next grade), while the
children enjoy the chance to play on the playground
in the evening!
Last Day of School & 5th Grade Graduation
On the last day of school, the 5th grade parents attend graduation and a reception hosted by the 4th grade parents. This celebration marks the end of the school year. Congratulations!
