Project Cornerstone – for parents and caregivers!

Palo Alto Unified School District is offering a free series of parent meetings open to all parents and caregivers. Join Project Cornerstone’s engaging workshop – Take It Personally, starting on Wednesday, October 10th from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Juana Briones Elementary School. You do not need to be a parent from Briones School, just an adult who cares about all kids.

We know that your strong family is the best predictor of your children’s success. Parents and caregivers need fresh ideas that work to keep families close, as children grow. Come learn new tools for strengthening your relationships with children and youth in this 6-week workshop facilitated by Project Cornerstone. Each week we will share, discuss, and practice ways to show caring, give support, set boundaries, and build strong relationships that help youth succeed in school, friendships, and life!

Learn tools you can use now – to strengthen your family connections and help young people thrive. Please note, if mornings do not work for you, Addison is offering the same program in the evenings starting October 11th and the information for that workshop is included below as well.

This is an opportunity to see old friends, to meet new ones, and see the class placements for the 2018-2019 school year. The PTA will host a popsicle party and new family treasure hunt to help your student get familiar with Briones!

Stop by the principal’s welcome: Tuesday, August 14th
Tuesday, August 14th is the first day of school! Classes begin at 8:15 AM, but please arrive early for community coffee and conversation from 7:30-8:15 AM. Then stay for the principal’s welcome in the MP room, 8:30-9:00 AM.

Look out for the PTA welcome packet
Your PTA Back-to-School Welcome Packet will include information on upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and membership information. Back-to-School packets will come home with your students in their backpacks on the first day of school.

Book Fair and Reading Challenge

The MP room will be transformed into a charming bookstore during our annual Briones Book Fair occurring April 16-20. If you’ve been eyeing a few books lately, move them out of your Amazon cart and buy them at the Briones Book Fair instead! A portion of the proceeds directly benefits Juana Briones Elementary School.

Students will have time with their classroom to make their very own wish list. In addition to student wish lists, all of our teachers will have wish lists for their classes that parents can donate to.

Book Fair Hours

  • Mon, April 16: 11:45am-12:45pm, 2:15-3:30pm
  • Tues, April 17: 8:00-9:00am (morning coffee), 11:45am-12:45pm, 2:15-3:30 PM
  • Wed, April 18: 8:00-9:00am, 11:45am-12:35pm, 1:25-2:30 PM

In conjunction with the book fair, we’re also doing a “Reading Challenge” where we encourage all parents to read with their children 30 minutes each night the week of April 16-20. By sitting with your child and reading one of your favorite books while they’re reading one of theirs, you can model terrific reading habits and help develop your child into a strong reader.
