Social Emotional Learning (SEL) at Briones

We have wonderful news on the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) front. Thanks to your kind donations to the PTA, we are piloting several SEL programs at our school this year.

SEL

Why SEL? Studies have shown SEL can positively impact social behaviors and attitudes, teamwork skills and academic performance. Studies also have shown that students exposed to SEL “have fewer conduct problems, less emotional distress and lower drug use among other benefits.” Check out the CASEL website for more information.

Jen Baker, our school counselor, will be piloting the Kimochis SEL Curriculum in K-2nd this year.

Growth Mindset

April McCandless (2nd grade), Julia Hughes (2nd grade) and Sarah Noonan (3rd grade) will be piloting the Growing Early Mindsets (GEM) curriculum this year.

Tom Culbertson (4th grade) and Jaclyn Petty (4th grade) will be piloting the award-winning Brainology curriculum this year as well. This is a growth mindset curriculum based on the pioneering work of Carol Dweck.

Other Programs

This is all in addition to Responsive Classroom and Project Cornerstone, programs that have been and continue to be supported by the school and district.

It is so exciting and it is all thanks to you, our wonderful parents, PTA, teachers, and principal.
