Due to Covid-19…. all of the events listed below
are subject to schedule change, cancellation, or
modification. Thank you for your patience and
flexibility throughout all our planning and we look
forward to our close partnership this year!
The following is a list of the events we usually plan during non-pandemic school years.
– The PTA
Back to School Parent Night.
By this time, your child has been in school for a few weeks and would have told you all about their classroom, new friends, and their teacher. Now it’s time for you to meet their teacher and learn more about the school year for yourself. Your child’s teacher will go over the plan for the year and then there will be a general session with words from the Principal, PiE, PTA, and supporting organizations. This event is for Parents only, and will be online for the 2020-2021 year.
Ice Cream Social
Families enjoy pizza and ice cream sundaes, scooped by our very own teachers! This is a fun, community building event where the children play on the playground while parents socialize and enjoy the warm, fall evening.
International Walk & Roll to School
International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. This event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation by our own Briones Bobcats!
At the Harvest Festival, Juana Briones families enjoy food, carnival games, arts-and-crafts, a climbing wall, obstacle courses, talent show, and much, much more. It is the biggest, school-wide, community event of the year!
Great Gatherings, Silent Auction, & Passport Dinners
During the Harvest Festival, plan to sign up for at least one community-building party hosted by our own Juana Briones parents and often with teachers attending as honored guests! Party favorites are Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss, Ladie’s Bunko and Men’s Poker!
National Unity Day
Students wear orange to show support for students who have been bullied, and in support of National Bullying Prevention Month. Student Council leads campus activities.
Around 8:30 AM, all students, teachers, and staff assemble for the annual Halloween Parade. Buddy classes escort younger classes around the yard and enjoy dance-offs hosted by the student council. Parents are encouraged to wear their own costumes and join in the fun!
Our PTA works with the Student Council to advertise and gather food from each classroom and delivers food to a local food bank.
3rd Grade Bike Safety
Third grade parents, in connection with District representatives, set up obstacle courses on campus and have a day dedicated to training 3rd graders on correct bicycle usage and safety.
Staff Holiday Luncheon & Cookie Exchange
This holiday luncheon celebrates both the holiday season and shows our appreciation for all teachers and staff at Juana Briones. Beautiful decorations, a buffet lunch (catered by a local restaurant), and small gifts for the teachers really show them how grateful we are for all that they do. The luncheon is followed by a cookie exchange, where parents make or buy cookies for the teachers to take home.
PTA Meetings & Movie Nights…
…are held multiple times throughout the school year. All PTA members (that’s YOU) attend, discuss, and vote on proposals for the school and our children enjoy amovie and some popcorn with other Briones children!
Family Math Night
Family Math Night is a fun evening of playing number and logic games. This evening is one of our family favorites! Popcorn and friendly competition makes for a great family night out.
The Juana Run!
Two years without the Juana Run? Let’s hope 2021 is our year!
Juana Run! For over 20 years, this 5K, 8K, mile, and kid races has been a family favorite. Runners from Palo Alto & neighboring cities turn up for a day of racing and a pancake breakfast! It’s the perfect way to jump start spring and bring neighboring communities together.
Ice Skating Party
This all-school party is held at the beautiful indoor/outdoor Winter Lodge Rink on Middlefield. Families whirl around the rink, taking a break only to enjoy pizza, baked goods, and hot chocolate.
Briones families come from all over the globe and
this event celebrates our diversity with food, culture,
games, and entertainment. Families host a country
table and make food to share. There are also dances
from different parts of the world, performed by
students, and their family and friends, as well as a
mini-parade to show off our international attire.
The Book Fair
is a wonderful event at which you and your children can buy books from a vast selection of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and
reference books! You and your child can also buy books for their classrooms, and fulfill their teachers’ wish lists.
Celebrate Mother Nature by walking, biking,
or carpooling to school. Pack a waste free
lunch, pick up trash, recycle markers, and
join in many other inspiring activities.
Community Garden Days
Bring your shovel and gloves and get ready to pull weeds,
plant seeds sown in your child’s classroom, and enjoy fresh
fruits and veggies with other Briones gardeners.
Enjoy a parents’ night out themed party with cocktails,
costumes, and a live band. All Juana Briones teachers
and alumni are invited! Spread the word! All profits
go back to PTA to support our children and teachers.
Staff Appreciation Week.
This week shows our staff how much we appreciate them! Each day of this week, parent volunteers surprise teachers with something special from the children, to show them how much we care. All the teachers and staff enjoy special lunches, coffee, and surprises to show our gratitude for all that they do for our children and the school!
Spring Open House
Kids love to share all their hard work from the year. At Open House you are invited to picnic on the grass before touring your child’s current colorful, student-decorated classroom. There are also opportunities to meet the teachers (of the next grade), while the
children enjoy the chance to play on the playground in the evening!
Last Day of School & 5th Grade Graduation
On the last day of school, the 5th grade parents attend graduation and a reception hosted by the 4th grade parents. This celebration marks the end of the school year. Congratulations!
